Starting from April, people will be able to enjoy free Wi-Fi services in Lodhi Garden,New Delhi. New Delhi Municipal Council(NDMC) is busy in doing arrangements for the same.

“There is a plan to provide free Wi-Fi at all the major parks under our area in the longer run. For now, tenders have been floated for Lodhi Garden and the service is likely to commence in April,” a senior NDMC official said.
The service will be provided using ‘smart poles’. Furthermore, Smart Poles are LED Streetlights which will have inbuilt security cameras and Wi-Fi facility. Moreover, the concept of replacing street lights with Smart Poles came in 2015 but was stuck since then due to various reasons.
“This is part of the NDMC’s plan to make the entire area a Wi-Fi zone. Lodhi Garden will be covered in the first phase and gradually, it will be implemented at the other parks, important monuments, metro stations and marketplaces under our jurisdiction,” the official added.
“Around 12,000 such poles will be erected across NDMC areas”, official added. Official further said, the starting is with Lodhi Garden. After that, the same will be done to other parks, vital monuments, Metro Stations and public places which come under NDMC’s juridiction.
(NDMC) had collaborated with Tata Docomo in the year 2014 to provide Wi-Fi services in both circles of Connaught Place. Later, NDMC partnered with FireFly Network(Airtel-Vodafone Joint Venture) to provide this facility at Khan Market.
Moreover, to provide better Wi-Fi services, NDMC now has partnered with MTNL.”The council is planning to form an SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle) with a subsidiary of MTNL to offer the Wi-Fi service,” the official said.
